In November I will have spent a year at my current job, and it's been a year too long.
Sometimes I feel kind of bad because the reality is I've had more than a handful of jobs since I've graduated from college. In some cases I moved up or tried furthering a career path and it either just wore me out too fast, or was just not a good situation for me and I would move on. I'm afraid now that I've been looking for a while for something else, that people are taking my inability to stay in a job for more than a year as something bad.
I don't necessarily see it as that. I've learned a lot from all those jobs. I consider myself versatile, dependable and self motivating. In all the jobs I've had since college, I've called off once, I help where help is needed and the customers (most of them) are my best friends.
Last week two job prospects in the field that I ideally would like a lifelong career in (child and family services/child care services/education) popped up. I hate getting so excited about them, but I'm so well qualified for both of them, I can't help but think my chances of nailing at least one of them is really good.
I touched up my resume and perfected cover letters and now I'm just hoping. Hoping and praying that I can get an interview for each of these positions, and hopefully be offered a position. The waiting game is what is killing me. One of the jobs is accepting resumes until this Friday, so I have to wait until at least next Monday before they start calling and scheduling interviews and the other one didn't have a deadline...so who knows???
All I want is a job where I'm not surrounded by negativity, backwards business management and something that I can call a career. Something where I'll be happy for the next 40 years.
That's not too much to ask for, is it??
Tell me, how long have you been with your current job and are you happy with it??
I'm linking up today with the fabulous Shawn and IA for their weekly Talk To Us Tuesday event. No rules and no guidelines, just a chance to make some new friends! Enjoy!

Good luck with the job hunt! I started a new job July and it's my dream job... I love it! The job landed in my life... I wasn't even looking. I think those are the best.
I completely understand not being happy at your job. I loved loved loved teaching but after 3 years, I was already to look for a different school. It's very hard to work and do a good job if you're surrounded by negativity. You're a positive person and the longer you're around that type of environment, the more it's going to affect who YOU are. So you're making the right decision.
I wish you MUCH LUCK with the two job prospects! Let us know if they call you!
And to answer your question....I love staying at home with emma but it doesn't keep me from missing my teaching job. =/
Thanks for linking up with us! We appreciate you. =)
I currently am happy about my job. I've had plenty that were less than stellar.
One bit of advice--call the place you put in your resume that doesn't have a deadline and just say you had put in a resume and were wondering what the timeline was on hiring. It can't hurt and might make your name recognizable when they do start looking at the resumes.
You and I are rowin' the same boat about hating our jobs... I only wish I had the ability to write about it like you are. I have my fingers crossed EXTRA hard for you to get one of those 2 jobs!! You deserve to be happy. I always said that if all else fails I'll go work at Hallmark-- how can you be unhappy working there? Its their job to cheer people up! :)
Wishing you luck in finding a job that you LOVE, Amber!!
I've been at my current job since 2004. Office Admin in the turf industry, which was not what I had planned when I was "dreaming big" as a kid - but it turns out, it's working well for me. I like working only a few minutes from home, for family friends who are very patient and kind. Some days I want to pull my hair out, but I figure that would happen at almost any job. I take the ups with the downs, and try to remember to be grateful for what I have.
The dream job was journalism. Dropping out of university during my first week kind of killed that dream. ;) But I like to pretend blogging is the same thing. haha!
I've had the same job for 17 years...Mom. It's a tough job full of good and bad.
Hopefully one of these jobs will be an answer for you, we all deserve to love what we do!
Thanks for linking up Amber!
I've worked in the FSU English department for 5 years and, for the most part, I do really like it. I make the entire freshman English class schedule and help the TAs who teach those classes. I help people, and I like that. But also, the job is really flexible and I get to be on the net a lot. ;)
Good Luck Amber! You deserve a great job!
I love my job....but it's unpaid!
I really didn't enjoy working in an office. I don't like the politics and people that get ahead by kissing ass.
Good Luck!!
And I love the new look!
Ahhhhh the waiting game can be so nervewracking!!!! I hope you hear something really soon, or at least on Monday. :o)
And I'm like you. The longest I ever stayed at a job was a year and a half. And that was in high school, so I'm not even sure it counts. :o) It doesn't make us undependable, it makes us well-rounded!
The waiting is really the hardest part. The right job will come along, keep your ears open and be patient!
I worked at the same company for 15 years - was promoted several time and worked with different people. LIfe is too short to be doing something you are unhappy with - we spend too much time working - good luck finding something new that you do like!

love the new look. i hope that you find a new job and a great one! i kinda fell into my 2 adult jobs that i've had.
Good luck job hunting!
I've worked at my job for about 5 years. For the most part I like it. The people are great. The pay is not that great though.
I hope you can make a move to something more positive and that you'd enjoy.
I know the exact feeling your explaining about the negativity and backwards business management. :(
